Dogs

The art club held a workshop by the fantastic Paul Kennedy.

Paul painted his own dog.

Then we all had a go with our dogs. This is Islay, the six month old cocker spaniel.

I painted her in Daniel Smith watercolours using Lunar Black and Lunar Blue.

The pencil drawing got a bit lost underneath the several layers of paint so her nose is a bit too long and narrow. However I really like some of the granulating effects - inspired by the Argentinian artist Nicolas Lopez - who usually uses them on landscapes and buildings.

Around the eyes I think are the most successful.

It was huge fun to paint my own dog, and I’ll definitely be trying again.
